So the first step in making this blog the network it is supposed to be is to learn how to raise bees!

A few year ago I purchased a Langstroth bee starter and tried to shift them into a Warre hive that my dear friend Mike built for me. It sort of worked and looked like something hideous but it made me realize just how industrious those little bees are. They patched up all the gaps and got right at home there. They survived that first winter in their crazy tower but then the following spring I was unable to attend to them and they swarmed before I could add another box on. I was pretty sad about that as they had proven to be so awesome already. A few of the bees stuck around but by the time the following spring came around, the boxes were empty. There was however, a lovely little crop of honey and comb. I harvested it by hand and enjoyed every bit of tasty honey I could.

Now spring is on it's way again and I would like to try again. Now that I know what I did wrong, I will do my best to give them lots of space and I would also like to try a Langstroth hive or two to see if harvesting and handling is any easier.

Thanks for checking in!
